Karen is a descendant of the Yorta Yorta people whose ancestral homeland radiates from the junction of the Goulburn and Murray Rivers in Northeast Victoria. She is a designer and illustrator whose inspiration stems from her love of animals and nature, and memories of holidays with her grandmother on the Cummeragunja (Our Home) Mission. Karen holds a Bachelor of Design - Illustration from the University of South Australia and a Diploma in Applied Design (Multimedia) from TAFE SA. She currently lives in the Adelaide foothills working from her home-based studio.

Currently, Karen has illustrated 3 picture books and various short stories including a poem for “The hush treasure book” along with various educational readers for schools. Her first picture book, Kick with My Left Foot, written by Paul Seden, was published in 2014 by Allen and Unwin, and shortlisted for the CBCA Crichton Award in 2015.

Karen enjoys readings stories from her books about Aboriginal culture and giving art workshops and activities around these themes as it imparts elements of Aboriginal culture and values into the younger generation.
