Published authors and illustrators across Australia

If you would like me to represent you, please read below:

For some people, presenting to a room full of children can be a daunting task. Most authors and illustrators enjoy the solitude necessary to create their work. But to be successful today, they need to be able to promote themselves and talk directly to their audience. Some people have this skill naturally and, for others, it comes over time. To be able to read and talk about your work, entertain children and make them want to buy your books, you need to be able to sell yourself. But the rewards can be wonderful.

Below are four questions you need to consider:

  • Have you had a book published by a reputable publisher? Be wary of vanity publishers who ask you for payment to get your book out there. Also, self-published books are difficult to distribute and therefore it is unlikely that schools or libraries will have seen your work. Therefore, I will find it difficult to promote and place you.

  • Are you active in the writing community? A good place to start is SCBWI (The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators). Australia has many vibrant writing communities and the SCBWI groups have a wide range of artists from beginners to those who have had many books published.

  • Are you active on social media? Do you have a website, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account? These are effective ways of advertising your services to a wide audience.

  • Have you had experience of presenting at schools? If a school is willing to pay ASA rates for a talk, activity or workshop, they will be expecting a professional delivery of value to the children. If not, it may be worthwhile gaining experience by offering your services direct to a school for free or at a reduced fee until you have learned the skill.

If you have answered yes to all four questions above, please send me an email containing your bio and a list of published titles.

Please also note that to work with children you will require a valid, up to date Working with Children checkand adequate insurance.
