Danny Snell grew up in Adelaide. From an early age he was fascinated by aeroplanes and wanted to be a pilot. But he soon realised that he much preferred to draw them. Drawing is something that Danny has always enjoyed, and he puts these skills to use illustrating children’s picture books.
Danny studied at the Adelaide Central School of Art and the University of South Australia graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Design (Illustration). Since then he has illustrated numerous picture books (more than he realises), including his long-term favourite, ‘Bilby Moon’. Danny also has two picture books under his belt as both author and illustrator: the environmentally themed ‘Seagull’, and ‘My Teeth’, a nonfiction picture book about (you guessed it) teeth!
When he’s not in his studio illustrating Danny enjoys sharing his books through presentations, readings and workshops – discussing their themes, the creative process and the life of a book illustrator. And to mix things up a little further he also teaches swimming…and draws the occasional aeroplane.
